Thursday's Things To Think About #5

Well, here it is the fifth week of "Thursday's Things To Think About". So far no one has participated but I just have a Linky....just in case anyone else want's to participate and link up.

I have been thinking about this and it has been driving me insane (short trip, I know). Since I am a County Certified Childcare provider I see a lot of parents that get all sorts of assistance. Some of these programs are:
  • County Funded Childcare
  • Food Stamps
  • Visit every food pantry within miles and miles
  • Medicaid
  • Metro Housing
  • WIC (which supplies the milk, eggs, peanut butter, cereal, cheese for pregnant women and children up to age 5 and provides formula, baby food and cereal for infants)
  • Cash assistance
  • College Tuition and living expenses
  • Gas money
  • Money to fix their cars
Now here is my issue. Some of these parents need these things and I agree that they should get it. But here are my problems:

  • They have the money to "Get Away" every other weekend to a hotel to escape the kids.
  • Got to the tanning bed 4 times per week.
  • Get their nails done once per week.
  • Eat 2-3 times per week out at an AppleBee's type of restaurant with the whole family of 3-6 people.
  • Spend thousands of dollars fixing up a house that they would like to rent-to-own.
  • Supply the whole family with clothes from Abercrombie, Sketchers, etc. (and NOT from the second hand stores)
I am not saying all families are like this but there are some that do this all along with getting all the assistance that they can and then get HUGE tax returns too boot. I know that there are families out there who need this assistance. But there are also families out there that abuse it and live off of it forever.

So here is something for you to think about:

What would the state of economy be in, if the government would take the tax returns of the people getting all this assistance, up to the amount that they use per year?

You can use this linky to post your own "Thursday's Things to Think About"

  1. I so Agree. I'm so sick and tired of people taking advantage of the system when there are others out there that really need it. Makes me ill that they even get Govt returns. They support them all yr long and then they get money back too. Uugh. I tell ya.
