I am back from my much needed mini-vacation. Hubby and I went to visit my Aunt Rita over the Thanksgiving weekend. It was so relaxing, we pretty much acted like bums most of the time. Here is how our trip went.
We left on Wednesday about 10:30-11:00am for Maryland, just outside of Washington DC. We arrived there about 6:00pm and dinner was waiting for us when we arrived. We had pork chops, BBQ shrimp and rice with vegetables. Yummy!! Of course we stayed up late talking and catching up on some things going on in our lives.
On Thanksgiving, my aunt and uncle fixed a full breakfast consisting of bacon, eggs, biscuits and hash browns. (She loves me:)) then we relaxed for a while until it was time to go out for our Thanksgiving Feast. And that is definitely what it was, a feast, well actually a buffet.
We, Aunt Rita, Uncle Curtis, Cousin Jess, Hubby and I, went to a restaurant, on 7th floor (top) of a Holiday Inn. The restaurant was awesome, all the outside walls were glass and the side we were on overlooked the Potomac River and Georgetown. The view was really cool. The meal was yummy, it consisted of Shrimp Bisque, tossed salad with all the fixin's, green beans almondine, lima beans and various corn mix, mashed potatoes/gravy, mashed sweet potatoes, roast pork (in a wonderful sauce), boneless chicken breasts in a berry sauce, turkey, ham, sausage stuffing, oyster stuffing and like 10 different desserts. I am not a dessert fan, so I skipped that, besides, I was stuffed to the gills.
After dinner we all went back to my aunt and uncles for pecan pie, chocolate pecan pie, chocolate cake (like there was not enough desserts at the feast) and drinks. Here is where my margaritas started. BTW, pecan pie goes really well with margaritas:) Then cousin Jess's Hubby, Jason, came over and my aunt and I played cards (Hand and Foot) with them. Yep, Jess and I lost. We think they cheated though.
On Friday, Hubby and I got up and went to the Air and Space Museum out by Dulles Airport then out for lunch at a Pizza/Pasta place. Trust me, it was nothing to write home about. I can't even remember the name of the place. Then Friday night we had Honey Baked ham, homemade mac and cheese and corn casserole and left over deep fried turkey from my uncles families' dinner, and of course more margaritas:)
Saturday we all got up and went to this amazing restaurant in Old Alexandria, Va called Royal. On Saturday and Sunday's they have an omelet bar and breakfast buffet. I have never been to such a place. You get in line and this one guy makes all the omelets, you just tell him what you want in it. You have the choice of ham, spinach, tomatoes, onions, green and jalapeno peppers, mushrooms, cheddar, swiss and feta cheeses and as much or as little as you like. Then you can get a waffle, and all the breakfast buffet stuff. Needless to say, I was stuffed to the gills once again.
After breakfast we all when to the Smithsonian American History Museum in DC. I am not much of a history buff, but it was interesting and HUGE! I bet we were in there for 2-3 hours. Hopefully we walked off our breakfast. :) For dinner we had leftovers from Saturday night and once again stuffed to the gills.
In between all the eating and visiting the museums, we watched some really good movies. I bet I watched more movies of those 4 days than I have watched in 6 months. But, it was oh sooooo relaxing. I went to bed when "I" wanted and got up when "I" wanted, took a shower on "my" time, and napped whenever "I" wanted.
I am so thankful that Hubby wanted to get away this year and I am also thankful that my Aunt Rita and Uncle Curtis has a huge house and loves company:) I am all rejuvenated and ready to go again for a while, thanks goodness!
